Born outside Chicago in 1989, my musical journey began at the age of 15 when I received my very first drum set. My life changed seemingly overnight; I was in love. Raised on Motown, Oldies, and Classic Rock, I soon took to all styles of music. I still reminisce on the countless hours spent in the basement developing my skills and playing to records.
My passion for music and an interest in jazz led me to New Orleans. Under the close tutelage of New Orleans musicians, Pianist Jesse McBride and Drummer Geoff Clapp, I soaked in the culture and musical heritage that New Orleans had to offer. I honed my skills and began learning on and off the bandstand. I look back on this time and know that I would not be where I am today without this experience.
After 6 years of listening, learning, and performing in New Orleans I decided to relocate to my hometown of Chicago. As a working musician I immersed myself into the scene, playing regularly with local jazz musicians, touring the nation with multiple groups ranging from indie rock, neo-soul, r&b, funk, and more, as well as leading my own projects. In 2015, I began writing my own music which ultimately led me to discover an interest in the art of recording and producing. I love making records and want to spend every day doing it [see PRODUCTION tab for more info].
Fast forward to 2021, my lovely girlfriend Ariana and I have relocated to Oakland, CA. Excited for what the future has in store for me!
With Love,
Mike
